The Trakia University of Thrace University was established in the year 1982 and named after the historical region of Thrace. It became an independent higher educational institute in 1995. The Trakia University is located in the city Stara Zagora, Bulgaria.

The university is a well-known institution in the country which offer bachelors, masters and PhD programs for the qualification of lifelong education. The university originally started teaching in the local language but has recently started to teach in the English language for Medicine and Veterinary medicine. The faculty of medicine at Trakia University enrols about 600 students, from Bulgaria and foreign countries. There are approx. 200 staff members in respective departments.

Stara Zagora is a very old city from 340 BC but now is a highly developed and provide services in like agriculture. The city has good infrastructure with high educational speciality, offering 40 schools which provide education in all subjects. The city contains the largest hospital in the country, the oldest theatre and the largest opera in the country. The city was awarded from FDI Magazine for its best quality of living in Europe.
